Earthquake hits Uganda, causes panic

Being in Kampala’s tall skyscraper buildings is always a top point for those who work there, but it turned out to be a big disadvantage this afternoon.

At around three o’clock, many people in such buildings ran crazy as they panicked out the buildings to seek refuge from an earthquake measuring 5.7  magnitude that shook the city.
Ugandans took to social media to share their experiences of the earthquake that is reported to have shaken different parts of the country including Kampala city.

Some posted photos of people running out of shopping malls following the incident that lasted a few seconds.  In Jinja town, it is reported residents and the business communities ran out of their premises for safety during the tremor that occurred at around 3:30pm. Trees and parked vehicles were seen shaking and flowers falling from top buildings.
It is reported that an earthquake of such magnitude would have caused much more damage if the area had been more developed.
