Kitara Select shock Cranes in Hoima with 1-0 win

HOIMA: After returning from 2019 Afcon in Egypt , Uganda Cranes began preparations for CHAN qualifiers with a regional tour match against Kitara Region Select at Booma Grounds in Hoima on Saturday 20th July 2019.

Thousands of fans from all the region stormed the venue to witness and support their team that got the lead from Bumate FC striker Vincent Kasoki in the 43rd minute.

Uganda Cranes midfielder Allan Kyambadde was close to scoring for the Cranes in the 32nd minute when he brilliantly looped goalkeeper Jamil Kiyimba but the ball hit the goal post.

Goalkeeper Saidi Keni, Daniel Serunkuuma, Nelson Senkatuka, David Owori, Paul Mbowa, Mustafa Mujuzi, Johnson Odong, Yusuf Ssozi, Asraf Mandela and Andrew Kigozi were introduced at the beginning of the second half. Left fullback Disan Galiwango is the only player that was not rested after the break.

Kitara Region coach Henry Gama made three tactical changes when he substituted goal scorer Kasoki for David Obedmoth in the 50th minutes, Kiryandongo TC player Steven Obbona came on for Roger Miller Ahumuza, Andrew Omego was introduced for Dove FC Ronald Kyamanywa, Kitara FC Joel Oscar Munihizi replaced injured Richard Enjama, Patrick Ongeyumu for Robert Bayuku, Brian Atuhire for Ivan Businge while Goalkeeper Kiyimba paved way for Yasiri Arafat.

Cranes second-half team dominated much of the game but the home side defence worked tirelessly to deny any scoring opportunities created by the visitors.

In the 90th minute, Uganda Cranes midfielder Yusuf Ssozi’s effort was cleared off the goal line by defender Maxwell Owachgiu.

‘It was a good game for us. We dominated both halves but failed to hit the net. The match has helped us to identify some of the weaknesses in the team that we should work upon before playing Somalia next week,” said Uganda Cranes Coach Abdallah Mubiru

Uganda Cranes official sponsors Airtel and parterners Nile Breweries under their brand Nile Speical team-up to support the tour.

The Cranes will travel to Djibouti for CHAN qualifier match against Somalia on 27th July 2019
