KIGALI: KCCA FC are searching for a second Cecafa Club Championship trophy since 1978 after reaching the final of the ongoing regional tournament in Kigali, Rwanda.

The Ugandan league champions eliminated Zambian club Green Eagles FC in the semi-final with a 4-3 victory in extra time at Stade Kigali on Friday evening.

A brace from Allan Okello and Amity Shamende for KCCA and Green Eagles respectively drew the tie level in normal time.

Extra time goals from Mike Mutyaba and Anaku Sadat gave KCCA a 4-2 lead before Chola scored a third for the Zambians two minutes from time but Mike Mutebi’s boys held on for the win.

In the final, KCCA will either face Tanzania’s Azam FC or DR Congo’s AS Maniema who face off in the second semifinal.

The final will be played on Sunday, 21 July 2019 at Stade Kigali.

If they go on to win the championship this year, they will smile home with prize money worth USD 30,000.

KCCA became the first ever Ugandan Club to win the Cecafa Club Cup that was held in Kampala, Uganda in 1978.

Police FC, under Manager Sam Timbe is the last Ugandan team to win the championship back in 2005, by defeating Moro United 2-1 in the final.

The Cecafa Club Cup is a football club tournament organised by Cecafa. It has been known as the Kagame Interclub Cup since 2002, when Rwandan President Paul Kagame began sponsoring the competition.

Azam FC are the defending champions while Simba are the record winners with six times.
