Tycoon Sudhir scoops Multi-Billion Parliament Deal

City tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia has won himself a Shs4.5bn deal to provide office space to Members of Parliament.

Sudhir’s Queen Chambers on Parliament Avenue was evaluated by Parliament as the best and cheaper option for the procurement of additional office space for more than 200 MPs and Parliament staff.

The contract with Meera Investments Ltd is expected to be signed in 10 days’ time.

The Shs4.5bn deal is for a period of two years and an additional Shs70.4m for installation of window blinds.

In a bid notice dated October 6, the Meera Investments was evaluated as the best bidder for the procurement requirements, which include the building being in close proximity to parliament and not more than 400metres.

Chris Obore, parliament’s director of communications, confirmed the development.

“It is true that the contracts committee which evaluated the bids zeroed in on Queen Chambers because it emerged as the best candidate for the contract,” said Obore.

Parliament has been facing a problem of limited space for its big parliamentary staff which saw MPs being forced to share offices as a temporary measure as the problem was being worked on.
