Beleaguered UPDF Chief of Land Forces Brig Leopald Kyanda believes the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen Kale Kayihura is the man behind his woes.
Brig Kyanda is fighting to save his job after it emerged that he was the brainchild behind a multi billion dollar arms scandal that has rocked the UPDF.
Though Brig Kyanda was cleared by an internal high profile probe led by the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI), the Army High Command has reignited interest in the case.
Yesterday, President Museveni, the Commander in Chief (CIC), summoned the High Command to a meeting at his upcountry home in Rwakitura and read out the riot act over unscrupulous dealings in the UPDF.
A decision on Brig Kyanda’s fate is yet to be taken but it will take a massive change of heart on Gen Museveni’s part to forgive him.
But Brig Kyanda at the weekend told his close associates that Gen Kayihura wants to bring him down because he suspects the Brigadier is interested in the IGP job.
“The information i have is that KK (Kale Kayihura) thinks i am interested in being IGP and he is doing all he can to tarnish my name, “Brig Kyanda told one of his close lieutenants.
A massive reshuffle in the security agencies is looming and it has left moat of the top Generals on tenterhooks, unsure if whether they will retain their posts.
