Horror in Kanungu as sons murder mom over land

KANUNGU: The police in Kanungu is holding three men for allegedly killing their biological mother over a land that they wanted her to vacate for them.

Yonah Ngorogoza, Jorry Asiimwe and a one Herbert were arrested after postmortem carried out showed their mother Margaret Mugisha was strangled to death.

Ms Mugisha who was a resident of Ibarya Cell, Kihanda Parish in Kirima Sub-County was strangled to death on February 22, 2019 by the sons who later locked her body in the house.

Regional Police spokesman Elly Maate confirmed the incident and said arrests have been made. He said the three were being detained on grounds that they were involved in land wrangle with the deceased.

“The deceased was staying with two of her grandchildren. However, at the time of the incident, they had gone to school. On coming back, they found the house locked. Herbert, being the most immediate neighbor, is the first person the children reached out to. He was not bothered but waited to report the matter to the area LCI the next day. When the house was broken into, the old woman was seen lying lifeless,” Maate said.

Maate said the suspects, upon interrogation, said their mother had committed suicide.

“We visited the scene and realized she had signs of violence on her body.  The body was taken to Kanungu H/C IV for postmortem which revealed that she was murdered by strangulation. Immediately, the children were arrested for questioning. Inquiries are underway Vide CRB 136/2019 of Kanungu.
