Gov’t Instructs Police to Arrest Opposition Leaders over Parallel Independence Celebrations

Government has Tuesday warned the opposition against holding a parallel independence celebrations.

Speaking to journalists at media centre in the afternoon, the state minister for presidency, Esther Ambayo said government has already instructed the police to deal with any one who will attempt to organize parallel celebrations across the country.

Forum for Democratic change former presidential candidate, Kiiza Besigye, who still maintains that he was robbed of victory in the February presidential elections vowed yesterday that the celebrations will go on.

According to the FDC independence schedule, the party is set to hold celebrations from on 7th and 8th at kira municipality and Kawempe which are to be crowned on the 9th October at Katwe.

Meanwhile, hours before his arrest on Tuesday, Besigye called upon courts’ of Judicature to rise up for their independence and put a stop to acts and people who use them to abuse the rights of the oppressed.

Addressing journalists shortly after reporting back before the High court criminal registrar in fulfillment of his bail terms, he expressed disappointment that despite reporting back to the High court and Nakawa magistrates’ court for his treason case for the last 5 months, investigations into the case have neither ended nor hearing commenced.

He said that it should be president Museveni in court over treason instead of him.
