Court Gives Red Pepper 15 Days to Respond to Lukwago’s Case

The High Court has given local tabloid, Red Pepper only 15 days to respond to Kampala Lord mayor, Erias Lukwago’s suit.

Lukwago has dragged the Red Pepper to court seeking General and Examplary Damages for defamation as well as permanent injunction restraining them from making further defamatory publications concerning him.

Initially Lukwago had requested the Red Pepper to retract its story that he found defamatory, however, the paper refused to comply.

“Just to let you know, dear friends, that the Redpepper newspaper never complied with the terms set out in the 4 day ultimatum, wherein I demanded for a retraction of the malicious, fallacious and libelous allegations they published against me last week and pay damages amounting to Ug. Shs. 3bn. Consequently, I was left with no option but to drag them to court for redress,” he revealed on social media today morning.

The Registrar, High Court has today morning issued summons to the Editor of the Redpepper to file their defence within 15 days.

“You are hereby required to file a written statemement of defence within 15 days from the date of service of summons on you in the manner prescribed under 0.9 R.I of the civil procedure rules. SHOULD YOU FAIL to file a written statement of defence in the suit on or before the said date, the plaintiff may proceed with the suit and judgement may be given in your absence,” reads the court summons in part.

My clean record and reputation has not come on a silver platter, reason whereof I shall not permit Redpepper to play around with the same and go Scot free.
