The Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago has attacked the minister for Kampala, Beti Kamya, for what he calls undermining the authority whose sole responsibility is to enact laws for the effective management of the city.
According to Lukwago, Kamya’s statements ordering street vendors off the streets is illegal saying that the minister usurped the role of the council.
“Kamya should stop uttering statements of evicting vendors who are less privileged,” roared Lukwago before adding that; “She should respect Kampala Capital City Authority leaders and decisions it makes.”
Lukwago has now called for an urgent meeting with councillors on Monday arguing that it is only after council deliberations that a decision will be taken.
