KAMPALA: The Uganda police’s directorate of the International Criminal Police Organization more commonly known as Interpol, has driven to Nakasongola for destruction, to burn four tons of fake liters of sachets spirits and 250 cartons of counterfeit cosmetics products worth Shs500 million.
The counterfeits were seized in a five-day operation dubbed FAGIA in and around Kampala.
The products were imported from West Africa between April and May 2019.
The Ag. Director Interpol and International Relations SCP Oyo-Nyeko Benson confirmed this development during a press conference Tuesday morning at Interpol offices in Kololo.
“The operation was conducted within a period of five days and during the five days, we managed to seize quite a number of items,” said Oyo-Nyeko.
He said that the items were taken for testing and that upon tests, they were substandard.
Oyo-Nyeko warned that the operation in conjunction with URA, URSB and UNBS among others is just the beginning.
“This is just but the beginning. We are going to continue with the crackdown to make sure that the population is protected against these substandard items,” he said.
