KAMPALA: City tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia has added a new multibillion building to his blossoming empire.
Staff from Ruparelia Group of Companies led by Sudhir and son, Rajiv Ruparelia on Saturday commissioned the new Electrical Plaza building.
The magnificent building located on Market street and Kiyembe lane cost more than $10m (over Shs37bn), according to Sudhir. The building contains a whopping 56 apartments which will attract rent between Shs1.7m to Shs2m per month. Electrical Plaza building also has 220 shops plus two floors of car parking.
Sudhir said that this new one stop shopping plaza will help bring back ‘life’ in Kampala.
“It is becoming really difficult to own land in Kampala and we have lots of middle class Ugandans who are working in the city. People waste about 2 to 3 hours in jam to and from their homes. This building will help Kampalans save time and money,” Sudhir said.
“Above all, we want to bring back life in Kampala, people ran away from the city and we want to bring back that life. People should do business in the city but also sleep there.”
