New Besigye 2021 plan ruffles Museveni

Clandestine plans by Opposition kingpin Kizza Besigye to traverse the country-with particular emphasis on the NRM’s perceived strongholds in Western Uganda – have ruffled President Museveni with the two eternal rivals already eyeing the 2021 elections.

After attracting mammoth crowds in the Western Uganda districts of Mbarara, Ibanda and Kabale last week, sources close to the country’s most senior Opposition leader indicate that he has hatched a plan to comb through most of Western Uganda in 2017.

FDC Secretary for Mobilization, Ingrid Turinawe, a very close associate of the retired Colonel will head the anti-Museveni campaign that will put more emphasis in the Ankole sub-region, with particular attention to Isingiro, Kiruhura, Mbarara, Kazo and Ibanda districts.

To avoid falling into the bad books of the regime, the anti-Museveni toxic rallies will be couched as a way of Dr Besigye passing a vote of thanks to supporters who voted him in the 2016 elections.

As a pointer to what lies ahead,Turinawe at the weekend posted that: “President Col Dr Besigye’s program to thank you all the voters who gave him votes is ongoing. You will be informed of the countrywide schedule so that you prepare.”

But Museveni will not take this lying down. He has already instructed security to resume the noose around Dr Besigye and the Opposition leader was this morning stopped in his tracks from leaving his home as he headed out for a planning meeting.

NRM leaders in the districts targeted by Dr Besigye are also under a brief to whip up mobilization in their areas as Museveni considers and plans his own counter-offensive.
