More misery for Lukwago as Attorney General blocks his money

An old English adage says it never rains but pours; that when one bad thing happens, its followed by a lot many other bad things. That’s exactly what is happening to the Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago.

Just after the Kampala Capital City Authority(KCCA) Minister Beti Kamya had blocked his Shs 500m salary arrears, it has now emerged that the Attorney General William Byaruhanga insists that Lukwago should not be paid a single penny pending his court cases.

In a December 20th letter to Beti Kamya, Byaruhanga ordered that Lukwago should not be paid his salary arrears before the Court of Appeal rules on whether he was legally removed from office.

“It would be in contempt of Court for Mr Lukwago Erias to be paid a salary or to derive any benefit from the office of Lord Mayor when the Court of Appeal has not disposed of his matters,”Byaruhanga directed in his letter.

Byaruhanga authored the directive after Kamya had inquired from him on whether the Lord Mayor can be paid.
