KAMPALA: Makerere University Women Football Club clinched the 2018/2019 FUFA Women’s Cup after defeating Lady Doves 2-0 in the final at StarTimes Stadium Lugogo on Saturday.

Makerere University took the lead in the 40th minute via a penalty kick taken by midfielder Jemima Twesigye following Catherine Nagadya fouling inside the penalty area by Lady Doves defender Gladys Nakitto.

Second half Substitute Fatumah Nakasumba doubled the lead after combining passes with Nababi Aminah in the 78th minute.

Lady Doves forward Nuluh Nakyanzi had an opportunity to level matters but failed to beat Makerere University goalkeeper Zahara Nankya in a one-on-one situation. Her effort went inches wide.

Lady Doves made early tactical changes in search for the equalizer. Lydia Nyandera was introduced for Karungi Getrude before the break while striker Miriam Akwero was brought on the return from the break.

The two substitutes added momentum upfront and midfielder Winnie Babirye was on spot with two close-range shots in the 74th and 76th minutes but the outstanding goalkeeper Nankya pulled off a double save to deny Lady Dove an equalizer.

In the 80th minute, second-half substitute Nakasumba Fatumah launched a counter-attack with a long pass to the right before Nababi Aminah cross was deflected into the net for the second goal for Makerere.
