Inter-party summit kicks off amid FDC protest

President Museveni (L), greets a group of Opposition politicians at the venue.

KAMPALA – The Inter-party Organisations Dialogue (Ipod) has kicked off at the Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.

Four political parties that are participating are; Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC), Democratic Party (DP), Justice Forum (Jeema) and the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

President Yoweri Museveni, the chairman of the ruling NRM is attending the meeting.

Early this month, Mr Wasswa Biriggwa, the chairperson of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), announced that they would not attend the Wednesday summit because there had been no negotiations between the parties’ principals who, in his view, should only meet to endorse matters already agreed by their assistants.

Founded in 2009, Ipod is a forum for leaders of political parties with representation in Parliament to engage on matters of common interest.

The Opposition has in the past accused President Museveni of frustrating the meetings.
