KAMPALA: Edward Athiyo, a prominent Karimojong elder and retired administrator reportedly died Friday morning from Seguku Hospital. Aritho was Minister of Trade, Transport and later Information in former-President Idi Amin’s government.
He was a district Commissioner and Member of Parliament in President Apollo Milton Obote’s government.
Crispy Kaheru, the Coordinator, Citizens’ Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda (CCEDU) described Athiyo as a strong agitator for Uganda’s Independence.
“I will remember him for storytelling. He had a good way of telling his stories,” Kaheru said.
