EXCLUSIVE: How Kayihura fixed Kyanda

It has emerged that Gen Kale Kayihura, the Inspector General of Police(IGP), is solely responsible for the woes of fired UPDF Chief of Land Forces Brig Leopold Kyanda.

Information reaching Daily Post is that Brig Kyanda’s woes are related to a deal he was involved in with Polish arms dealers and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army(SPLA) and not the Uganda People’s Defence Forces(UPDF) as has been been widely reported.

First Son and the Commander of the Special Forces Group (SFC) Maj Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba is also mentioned to have been in the mix of the deal. Both Maj Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba and Brig Kyanda pocketed thousands of dollars from the deal.

Where does Gen Kayihura come into the mix?

On learning of the deal, Gen Kayihura, who was under fire over police brutality and was on the verge of losing his job, reached out to his contacts in the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) who started authoring damaging reports on Brig Kyanda.

Gen Kayihura was pulling all the stops to taint Brig Kyanda’s image and ensure that he has no chance of replacing him as Police chief. With Brig Kyanda portrayed as a corrupt and materialistic officer, it was written on the wall that he would be fired soon.

The final nail in Brig Kyanda’s was a hard-hitting report was dispatched to President Museveni, who furiously convened the High Command and warned of creeping corruption in the Army.

During the High Command meeting, sources say both Brig Kyanda and Gen Kayihura did not ‘say anything’ on the matter of corruption in the Army.
