Why Kampala’s property magnate Mohan Kiwanuka must never forgive his adopted son

KAMPALA: For weeks now low profile business tycoon Mohan Musisi Kiwanuka and his adopted son Jordan Ssebuliba Kiwanuka have been in the media, with the latter saying his father is mentally ill in the war to take over some of the properties that belong to the old man.

In short if the elderly Kiwanuka died, the greedy son Jordan would be the happiest man in the world. That is why the businessman must never forgive the greedy soon.

Analysts say Jordan who was educated by Mr. Kiwanuka in good schools in Uganda and abroad is a failure in life. “When a parent educates a child to being a lawyer, there is nothing that that child demands from the father. The father can only give him some property out of his own will,” the analyst of Kiwanuka’s situation says, blasting Jordan who he says must give the old man peace.

Mr Kiwanuka, the husband of former Finance minister Maria Kiwanuka, is a humble man and those who have been close to him praise him for his humble ways.  He never shows off like many rich men would do and that is why God has kept him alive to this day,” says a close relative from the maternal side.

Another relative of Kiwanuka says the businessman must act very quickly to keep his greedy adopted son Jordan away from his properties. “This boy being a lawyer could still properties of the mzee in case he is no more. Our brother must keep that in mind,” a lady who says she originates from the same clan with Kiwanuka says.

Mr Kiwanuka’s properties have been exposed in the documents that were presented recently to court both by Mr Ssebuliba and his brother Sabri Kyamukungubya Kiwanuka.

Ssebuliba is a lawyer and until May, he was the company secretary and signatory to the accounts of 32 companies owned by his father, which he listed in the documents.

His brother Kyamukungubya, who swore an affidavit in support of his father, said in the documents that he studied Finance and Economics at the University of Connecticut in the United States, and now works with dfcu Bank as a personal finance consultant.

Ssebuliba in May petitioned the High Court seeking orders to conduct a mental checkup on his father, who he accused of not being fully in control of his mental faculties after his father stopped him from the management of the 32 companies.
