UPDF captain dies in car accident

UPDF Capt Aaron Abaho has died in an accident on Masaka-Kampala highway after the car he was travelling in collided with a taxi.

The accident occurred yesterday afternoon at Kaddugala Village, Mukungwe Sub-county in Masaka District.

According to the regional police spokesperson, Mr Paul Kangave, the deceased was with his sister-in-law Yayeri Asasira.

The duo was travelling in a Toyota Premio and the commuter taxi was full of passengers.

Mr Kangave said out of the 14 passengers, eight sustained injuries among which three are children who were admitted to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital.

Capt Abaho, who was travelling to his home district of Mbarara, had reportedly returned from a military course in Jamaica.

Mr Kangave said both cars were speeding before they collided in a corner at Kaddugala.

Mr Kangave said the deceased were taken to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital and later airlifted in a UPDF helicopter to an unknown destination.

Capt Abaho leaves a widow, Sylvia Abaho, who is the elder sister of Asasira.
