Three in Trouble for Vandalizing Water Pipes

NAMISINDWA: Three people in Namisindwa district are in police custody accused of vandalizing water pipes belonging to the National Water and Sewerage Corporation-NWSC. The suspects are Abraham Musolya, Beatrice Napinyo and Zonbila Mabonga, all residents of Bubutu Sub County in Namisindwa district.

Halima Mukhwana, the Manafwa Branch Area Manager NWSC, says that they picked up the suspect in an operation backed by the police, adding that more suspects are on the run. She says that the suspects vandalized water pipes with the aim of using water illegally in their homes and gardens. According to Mukhwana, the water body has been making losses in repairing the damaged water infrastructure, which prompted them to launch the operation.

Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson has confirmed the arrest of the suspects, saying they are locked up at Namisindwa central police station on charges of vandalizing government property. John Musila, the Bubulo East Member of Parliament, says the water body and police should have first sensitized the residents about the dangers of vandalism and connected some households before conducting arrests.
