KAMPALA: The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) once again took center stage during the exhibitions at the World Engineers Day 2024, held at Hotel Africana on March 4th. The commemoration of World Engineers Day 2024, organized by the Engineers Registration Board (ERB), witnessed the stellar performance of NWSC that depicted the corporation’s engineering excellence.
Led by Ms. Viviene Newumbe, the Manager of Public Relations for Kampala Water (KW), the NWSC team, comprising a diverse array of experts, left a lasting impression with their impeccable service, remarkable exhibition and demonstration skills. Among the standout members were Mr. Abraham Erodi, a Water Quality Analyst, Ms. Paula Namuli, a Mapkit Analyst, Ms. Martha Lukabwe, a Software Engineer, and Ms. Monica Ndagire, a Water Quality Chemist. Additionally, Mr. Ssebaggala Quinton showcased expertise in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems, while Ms. Evelyn Tushemerirwe excelled in customer relations. The team’s efforts were further complemented by the proficient handling of public relations by Ms. Sheila Nabafu and Ms. Pearl Agasha.
The World Engineers Day celebrations, guided by the theme “Engineering Solutions for a Sustainable World,” highlighted the significant role of engineers in addressing global challenges, and the three-day event, initiated by ERB, encompassed various activities aimed at promoting health, education, and technological advancements in engineering, including AI applications.
The festivities kicked off with the Engineers’ Run, a health-focused initiative aimed at fostering solidarity among engineering professionals, whereas Day two featured a thought-provoking conference at Hotel Africana’s Nile Hall, graced by esteemed speakers such as Eng. Andrew Muhwezi, President of the Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers, and Ms. Rosie Agoi, Secretary General of the Uganda National Commission for UNESCO. The conference discussed topics ranging from sustainable development to skills enhancement in engineering.
The conclusion of the event on day three, today, will witness the solemn “oath ceremony” at Kyambogo University, where engineers will pledge their commitment to ethical practices in their profession. Notable NWSC representatives taking part in this ceremony include; Dr. Irene Nansubuga, Dr. Martin Kalibala, and Ms. Ritah Nalumansi, who is involved in project management.
Ms. Kia Jacquelyn, the Administrator of ERB, emphasized the importance of the annual event in fostering collaboration and innovation within the engineering community. With over 300 engineering fellows in attendance, this year’s celebration marked a significant milestone, promising even greater participation in the future.
World Engineering Day gives a moment to express gratitude and recognition for engineers’ invaluable work in shaping a better world. ERB, as the regulatory authority for engineering in Uganda, plays a crucial role in ensuring standards and ethics are upheld across the profession.
