KAMPALA: Government has issued a stern warning to wetland encroachers to get out peacefully if Uganda is to have reliable rainfall to facilitate human and industrial development and irrigation schemes to boost agriculture.
The stern warning was yesterday given by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni made the remarks yesterday at Kololo Independence grounds as National Water and Sewerage Corporation celebrated 50 years of passionate and dedicated service.
President Museveni said that there is wrong, dangerous and unnecessary for people to interfere with water bodies such as the lake shores, river banks, swamps for farming and other activities that not only contaminate but also drain water bodies.
The ceremony was organised under the theme: “Accelerating Sustainable Water and Sanitation for All; For Health and Wealth” and the President added that the government will soon be announcing a clear plan to deal with encroachers once and for all.
The Managing Director of National Water Sewerage Corporation, Eng Silver Mugisha thanked the President for the support given to the corporation which has enabled them to provide 21,000 km of water infrastructure.
