Kidnappers free kids after Shs2m ransom is paid

KANUNGU: Two children aged 13 and 10 kidnapped by armed men on Saturday in Kanungu district have been freed at parents paid Shs2 million ransom.

Akim Nuwagaba and Ramathan Ayinamani all pupils of Ntungamo Primary School, Kanungu were freed Sunday evening following their Saturday afternoon kidnap at Bugarama cell, Munyaga parish, Binza Sub County in Kanungu.

“The victims have been released after payment of Shs2m to kidnappers,” a source said adding, “They are in good health.”

Security sources say the captors used text messages to negotiate for the money .

“The strictly used text messages while giving instructions and negotiating,” a source added.

The pair are sons of Seth Bahati, a resident of Kyabuyorwa Upper Eastern Ward Butogota Town Council and was kidnapped a short distance away from their mother, Joselyne Ampeire from a rice plantation.

Their captors then crossed over to the DR Congo before engaging relatives for a ransom.

An investigation Vide SD Ref 10/20/7/2019 of Butogota is still ongoing.
