EXAMINATIONS: UNEB unveils SMS Service to Check Candidates’ Registration Status

KAMPALA: UNEB has unveiled a short Messaging Service (SMS) for checking candidates’ registration status. This follows the closure of the examination registration exercise for the year 2022.

According to a source at Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB), Candidates, parents, guardians, and other interested parties can now confirm the registration status of candidates using the telephone Short Message Service (SMS) option.

UNEB will open up the SMS service, beginning today, Wednesday July 6, 2022.

The UNEB Executive Director, Dan Odongo said on Tuesday that the service applies to all candidates of Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE).

“To confirm the registration status, one needs to know the full Index Number of the candidate, then Type Reg, leave Space, type Full Index Number and send to 6600,” he said.

“The Full index Number includes the Center Number and the Student individual Number. For example for PLE, type Reg, Leave space, type full index Number e.g. 234569/001, and then send to 6600. Similarly for UCE, type Reg, leave space, type full index Number e.g. U0888/001, then send to 6600. For UACE, type Reg leave space, type full index Number e.g. U0777/501; then send to 6600,” he added.

Odongo said candidates and parents should confirm the registration status, correctness of names, order of names, and the papers registered for, in the case of UCE and UACE candidates.

In the event that there are anomalies that need to be corrected, the Odongo said, parents should inform the school authorities immediately, who will in turn inform UNEB to make the required amendments.

Detailed and cleaned up registers of the candidates shall later be displayed at the schools/Examination Centers, as well as the District Headquarters.

The initiative will most likely reduce the unfortunate incidents of candidates who divert school and registration fees, and deceive their parents to have registered yet they didn’t.
