Mr. Isaac Lutwama, the CEO of Uganda Rugby Union who graced the team and kit launch on Thursday praised the Sharks’ rapid ascent to the top-flight, thanks to the able leadership of its patron, Prof. Lawrence Muganga who has full support of the team’s endeavors.

“In just two years, this team has shown incredible dedication to excellence. Their rise from the Varsity Sevens to the Premier League is a testament to their commitment. We look forward to seeing them compete at the highest level,” Lutwama remarked.

“This is a big step taken by the team to play in the Nile Special Premier League. It is a big milestone indeed the fact that it first played in the Central regional league where they also won, therefore It is not about playing Rugby but the players are also receiving welfare in form of insurance and scholarships from the University,” he added.

On his part, Vice Chancellor Muganga expressed immense pride in the team’s achievements, particularly their undefeated streak in the University Sevens. “This has been an incredible journey, and this team has truly lived up to the high expectations we’ve worked so hard to achieve,” he said.

He [Muganga] explained that the initiative (to establish the rugby team) is part of the University’s Social Corporate Responsibility to instil a spirit of collaboration, resilience, and discipline in students to help them thrive in the real world.

Muganga further urged the team to embrace technology and innovation because the university has made education technology-driven, leaving behind traditional methods like books and pens. This forward-thinking approach, according to him, can help prepare students for the real world.
