KAMPALA: UCU Lady Cardinals FC and Lady Doves FC on Thursday made it to the final of the 2018/19 FUFA Women Elite League after eliminating defending Champions Kawempe Muslim Ladies and Kampala Queens respectively in the playoffs played at the StarTimes Stadium.
Skipper Maureen Kinavudori opened the scoring in the 1st minute to give UCU Lady Cardinals an early lead. Nakate Cissy doubled the score in the 10th minute before Nakasi Jackeline’s shot was deflected into the net by Kawempe defender Adubango Rehema in the 29th minute.
Anita Namata pulled one back for Kawempe in the 37th minute before former Kawempe Muslim star player Hasfa Nassuna added the fourth for Lady Cardinals two minutes to the break.
At the beginning of the second half, defending Champions made a double change with Nazizi Florence Nanziri Rhoda paving way for Naddunga Sharon and Nakacwa Samalie. The former managed to score the second goal for Kawempe in the 84th minute.
The Match ended 2-4 in favor of the Lady Cardinals to storm their 2nd appearance in the FUFA Women Elite League final.
In the second playoff, Masindi based side Lady Doves have got to thank inform Riticia Nabbosa for the lone strike in the 25th minute. Lady Doves’ goalkeeper Daisy Nakaziro made several saves to thwart all chances created by Kampala Queens.
Thursday’s development confirms that the FWEL will have a new champion on Sunday 2nd June at the StarTimes Stadium.
Kawempe Muslim who has won the title for four successive seasons will avoid a loss to Kampala Queens in the third-place playoff match on Sunday.
Kawempe team has been in disarray of late as they have lost four successive matches this season-twice to Lady Doves; once to She Corporate and Asubo Gafford Ladies.
