The Buganda Road Court has issued criminal summons for controversial former Central Police Station commander Aaron Baguma, who has since December last year evaded murder charges slapped against him by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Chief Magistrate Jamson Karemani ordered the police to bring Baguma to court on Thursday next week to be charged in connection with murder of businesswoman Betty Katusabe at Pine car bond in Kampala.
“Criminal summons are issued for A8 (Mr Baguma), who is not in court for August 18,” the magistrate ordered.
Resident State Attorney Jonathan Muwaganya moved court to issue the summons after he tendered in an amended charge sheet that included Mr Baguma among the suspects, and asked that the elusive police officer be summoned by court.
Prior to the criminal summons, the DPP Mike Chibita, had earlier in a July 20 letter to the director of the police Criminal Investigations and Intelligence (CIID) Grace Akullo, ordered the police to sign off the amended charge sheet, and produce Mr Baguma before Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court, but the police said they had not received any criminal summons.
