KAMPALA; The National Water and Sewerage Corporation’s (NWSC) Kampala Water (KW) region, has launched an Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) system to revolutionize the monitoring and analysis of water consumption. Targeting District Metered Areas (DMAs), fire hydrants, and high-volume consumer accounts, the AMR system promises enhanced efficiency and accuracy in tracking water usage trends.

The new system captures real-time data, enabling NWSC to identify anomalies, optimize resource allocation, and respond promptly to issues. By integrating seamlessly with all existing meter types, the AMR technology ensures broad compatibility across KW’s operational network.

It comprises three key components: a Remote Terminal Unit (RTU), an Electronic Data Collector, and a SIM card that transmits data directly to NWSC’s central server. Together, these components provide instant updates on meter performance, improving the corporation’s ability to address discrepancies and maintain service reliability.

The rollout began on October 28th, 2024, with installations across 54 locations in the first phase. Final software configurations are underway to ensure the system operates at full capacity. Plans for a broader expansion are already in place, aligning with NWSC’s commitment to continuous service improvement.

With the AMR system in action, Kampala Water aims to enhance its reliability, efficiency and sustainability in service delivery.
