Museveni appoints team to probe Makerere rot

President Museveni has appointed a 9 man visitation committee to inquire into the affairs of Makerere University.

In a letter dated November 14, 2016 addressed to the Chancellor, Museveni said: “I am setting up a Visitation Committee to conduct an Enquiry into Makerere University.  This is not the first time I have set up such a visitation committee.

The new committee will review the reports of the old committees, find out what was implemented or not implemented and why, as well as making new recommendations if necessary.”

The President said the committee will commence work immediately.

The committee is chaired by by former minister Dr. Abel Rwendeire and deputised by Lady Justice Keturah Katunguka.

Members include former minister Tim Lwanga, Dr. Florence Muranga, Dr. Proscovia Namubiru Sentamu, John F. S. Muwanga, Dr. Paul Musasizi, Dr. Kisoro and Eng. Lumu.

President Yoweri Museveni last week ordered for closure of Makerere University currently embroiled with lecturers’ and students’ strikes. Students joined the strike after lecturers under their umbrella body Makerere University Academic Staff Association (MUASA) resolved to continue their strike until sh32b in allowance arrears over eight months is paid.
