Muntu, Mao European trip rattles Museveni

The English say it never rains but pours. And indeed, it’s not raining but pouring for President Musveni.

With Museveni already grappling with domestic headaches ranging from the closure of Makerere University to the tensions raging in the Rwenzori sub-region, another problem is rearing its head.

Museveni and his handlers in security are currently scratching their heads to discover why FDC President Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu led a high-powered delegation bringing together FDC and DP leaders to Europe.

The delegation, comprising of DP President Norbert Mao, FDC Head of Youth League Idi Ouma and the Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) President Christopher Okidi travelled to the German capital Berlin on Sunday.

Rattled by the secret trip, Museveni has since directed the head of the External Security Organisation (ESO) Joseph Ocwet to monitor the movements of the delegation and file a report with the President’s office as soon as possible.

Gen Muntu, who was Director of Military Intelligence (DMI) during the 1981-85 Luweero Bush War, has already warned the folks on his delegation to be aware that their movements are being tracked and to watch their ways. They have thus cut away entertainment from their schedules and will not check out the nigh life of the European capitals they will visit.

The delegation is believed to be on a fundraising trip to raise badly-needed resources to finance the development of party structures and prepare for parliamentary by-elections should the Court of Appeal annul some elections.
