MPs form group to have a share on 7b Oil Cash loot

Keen not to be left behind in the Shs 7b that was controversially shared out by senior government officials, a cabal of MPs have formed an informal pressure group to scheme of how they can benefit from the cash.

Daily Post Uganda understands that a group of over 30 MPs-mainly NRM MPs-met at Parliament late Tuesday evening to map a strategy of how to crank up the pressure on the government officials involved to force them to part with some cash.

The informal group is led by the Usuk County MP Peter Ogwang and the Bukedea Woman MP Anita Among. NRM Caucus Vice Chairman Solomon Silwany (Bukholi Central MP) and Ajuri County MP Hamson Obua are other MPs in the group.

These young MPs are known to be allies of President Museveni, who received an intelligence brief about the scam and is furious with the government officials involved.

The plan by the MPs is to petition Parliament demanding for a Select Committee into the scandal with a radical proposal of forcing the officials involved to resign. They hope to rely on the position of Ogwang who is a Commissioner of Parliament to further their gains.

These MPs also want a detailed expenditure brief on how the Shs 12b in supplementary budget passed by the 9th Parliament to handle Oil arbitration cases was used.
