MPs accused of pocketing kickbacks from Kayihura

MPs on the Defense and Internal Affairs Committee are under fire after a dubious secretive meeting with the Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura where they are suspected of having pocketed millions in kickbacks.

A section of MPs on the Committee led by the Judith Nabakooba met Gen Kayihura on Friday at the Lake Victoria Serena Resort, triggering accusations from their colleagues that they could have lined their pockets to protect the General.

Rubaga South MP Kato Lubwama is among the MPs that attended and he reportedly asked the General to help him resolve the suit that he is battling in court over forgery of academic papers.

Shadow Internal Affairs Minister Muwanga Kivumbi (Butambala County MP) and the Makindye East MP Allan Ssewanyana, who is both members of the Committee, snubbed the General’s invitation after learning that money would dubiously exchange hands.

With the Police coming under intense criticism and Gen Kayihura fighting to save his job, he contacted Nabakoba to help deliver the MPs to the Hotel located in Lweza, away from the prying eyes in known Kampala hotels.

During the meeting, Gen Kayihura put up a spirited defence of the Police’s handling of Dr Kizza Besigye’s supporters and also inked a deal with the MPs to always defend him when he comes under attack in Parliament.
