KAMPALA: As the country is still mourning the death of Dr Catherine Agaba who was brutally murdered by an askari, bad news also is that an official of Lwengo District local Government was on Wednesday murdered and his body dumped in a farm in Lwengo district. Eric Ngabo’s body was retrieved from Muhigira farm in that district.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that Ngabo, 29, was kidnapped by unknown people who strangled him to death on his way from Mbirizi trading centre to the district headquarters.
Regional Police spokesperson, Lameck Kigozi confirmed the incident. “As police, we have not yet arrested anyone in connection with this murder, but we are carrying out investigations. We have taken the deceased’s body to Masaka Regional Referral hospital for post mortem,” he said, adding that the body has been taken to Masaka Hospital for postmortem.
Peregirino Ssenozi, a councillor representing Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) at Lwengo District Local Government Council, said they were shocked to receive information that Ngabo had been killed because they had earlier in the day attended a function at the district headquarters with him.
“Ngabo received a telephone call as we were attending a function and left the venue, later to hear news of his death. It’s so sad,” he said.
Abdul Kabugo Mugendawala, a councillor representing Ndagwe Sub County, said he saw the deceased jumping on a Boda Boda to Mbirizi Town where he is believed to have been kidnapped and later murdered.
“The crime rate is at its peak and we really don’t know what is going on here,” he said, adding that unknown people have been kidnapping children. “It’s worrying that they have now started kidnapping and killing mature people,” he said.
Ngabo has been working in accounts office at the district offices.
