Go slow on Karuma: Museveni warns MPs

President Museveni has put MPs on red notice to go slow with investigations into the bungled up construction of Isimba and Karuma hydro-electricity dams.

Museveni met MPs on Parliament’s Natural Resources Committee on Friday at State House Entebbe  and warned them that there are ongoing investigations by intelligence agencies into the inter-agency fights that have bedevilled the construction of dams.

The President cautioned MPs that any parallel investigation by Parliament may interfere with the ongoing investigations, effectively stalling the probe by Parliament.

To back up the President’s warnings, Attorney General William Byaruhanga has also warned that there is a court case regarding the two dams and any Parliamentary inquiry would offend the rule of sub-judice.

An MP who spoke on condition of anonymity intimated to Daily Post that the President trusts intelligence agencies like Internal Security Organisation (ISO) and the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) to do a better job than a Parliamentary Committee.
