Former MP Kipoi appears before court martial, sent back to Luzira

Former Bubulo West legislator Tony Kipoi Nsubuga has today appeared before General Court Martial over treason charges.

Kipoi who was in the first week of February arrested in Botswana and extradited in March after he was reported to be extorting money as he passed off as witch doctor. kipoi was handed over to Military police before he was sent to Luzira prison by Nakawa grade one magistrate Jameson Karemani.

Prosecution averred that between November 2012 and December 2013, while in various districts of Uganda, Kipoi convened meetings to recruit soldiers with an intention of overthrowing government.

Appearing before General Court Martial chaired by Lt Gen Andrew Guti,the accused denied all charges that were leveled against them and that led to remanding of Kipoi to Luzira Prison and others to Makindye military barracks till April 24, 2018.

Kipoi is charged along with five UPDF soldiers who include Sgt. Yunus Lemeriga, CPL Rogers Mwiru, Sgt. Adams Mawa, Sgt. Albino Okenge and Private Ddodola Ijosiga.

Kipoi has been on remand in Luzira prison over the charges of attempting to traffic 20 people from Bukedea district to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

In 2013, Kipoi was arrested in Congo and charged with treason however left the country and was wanted by the Ugandan authorities to answer the charges of treason.

In that same year he lost his Parliamentary seat after he missed sixteen consecutive Parliamentary sittings.
