Express FC release eight players in re-organisation plan

KAMPALA: Six-time Uganda League champions Express Football Club have today released eight players from their squad.

The Wankulukuku-based club has decided not to renew the contracts of: Goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga, Tony Odur, Shafik Kakeeto, Ibrahim Kayiwa, Joel Male, Pius Mbidde, Charles Musoke and Isaac Mutanga.

Goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga joined the club from URA FC. He has served the club for one season including the heroic performance against Police in the Uganda Cup when he saved 2 penalties to help them qualify for the quarter finals.

Shafik Kakeeto joined the club from Tooro United two season ago. He was part of the team that kept a clean sheet at Bugonga against Masavu in the 2017/18 season and helped the Red Eagles maintain their premier league status.

Tony Odur joined for another spell from Vipers SC and was their league top scorer with 7 goals and one in the Uganda cup. He scored the winning penalty against Police in the Uganda Cup round of 16 and always gave good moments from the penalty mark.

Ibrahim Kayiwa will also be leaving the club. The midfielder joined from Vipers after a loan spell at Kirinya Jinja SSS.

Joel Male joined the club from Katwe United and made a few appearances throughout the season. The club decided not to renew his contract.

Pius Mbidde joined from Big League side Kitara FC and made many performances for the club in defensive midfield. The club also decided that his contract won’t be renewed.

Charles Musoke joined from Nyamityobora FC and started in midfield before making the right back position his own towards the end of the season. The club decided not to continue his stay.

The seven players join Isaac Mutanga, who was the club captain, to be released as they start early preparations for next season.
