Former Local Government Ministry Permanent Secretary Patrick Mutabwire risks serving a jail term after the Auditor General’s report implicated him in using Shs 287m worth of taxpayers money to bankroll a sex spree in Botswana.
The Auditor General’s report indicates that while on a trip to Gaborone, the Botswana capital, in 2008, Mutabwire diverted money that was meant to fund a Ugandan delegation to book lavish hotels where he enjoyed “quality time” with his better half.
Mutabwire, who has since been interdicted on the order of the Inspector General of Government(IGG) was always known to live a flamboyant life while serving as Local Government PS.
Mutabwire was on Friday summoned to the Public Accounts Committee(PAC) and asked to either refund the money or be sent to the coolers in Luzira Prison.
Worried by the prospect of Luzira Prison, Mutabwire promised to refund the money but was given an ultimatum of two weeks. He said he has written to the IGG notifying her of his intentions to refund the money.
