Dr. Rose Kaggwa leads global discussion on water sustainability

CAIRO: Dr. Rose Kagwa, Senior Director of Business and Scientific Services at the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) continues to make strides in global water sustainability, representing Uganda on prominent international platforms. Recently, she led conversations at the Global Water Operators’ Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA) Assembly and participated in the 12th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF 12) in Cairo, Egypt.

Notably, the Global Water Operators’ Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA) Assembly is a biennial event that shapes the future of global water and sanitation cooperation and this year’s, was the first to use a hybrid format that allows for in-person and remote participation.

In her new role as Chair of the GWOPA Assembly, Dr. Kaggwa was a clear depiction of the power of peer-to-peer collaboration among water utilities worldwide. These partnerships, she noted, are key in enhancing water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services, particularly in addressing inequalities and improving resilience. She emphasized their critical role in advancing Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) aimed at ensuring universal access to water and sanitation by 2030.

At WUF 12, with over 30,000 participants from across the globe, Dr. Kaggwa brought to the table insights on urban water management, addressing challenges like climate change, resource constraints, and sustainable development in rapidly growing cities. Her focus on integrating innovative approaches within water utilities aligns closely with NWSC’s efforts to improve service delivery across Uganda, even in the face of mounting urbanization pressures.

Dr. Kaggwa’s leadership at these influential forums reinforces NWSC’s commitment to driving sustainable water management practices, fostering international cooperation, and promoting innovation. Through her contributions, NWSC not only amplifies its voice on the global stage but also positions itself as a key player in solving the water and sanitation challenges of today and tomorrow.
